Brief history

The history of the Faculty of Medicine begins on October 20, 1945, upon the establishment of Chisinau State Institute of Medicine.

The increase in the quality and efficiency of medical higher education is largely due to the modern methods and techniques of training, implemented by the University. In this context, it should be mentioned, as a participant in the process, the University Centre for Simulation in Medical Training, where modern methods of education and new medical practices based on simulation are applied, thus being developed the right medical skills and abilities in an organized framework, according to a well-structured program, without risks for the patient, at the same time reducing the potential errors and improving the quality of provided medical care.

  • Year 2014

     

    In 2014, the Faculty Self-Evaluation report was drawn up in line with the standards of the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME).

  • Year 2005

    Since 2005, the faculty has been led by the associate professor Gheorghe Placinta, doctor in medical sciences. Also in 2005, it was evaluated by the Council of the International Conference of Deans of French-Speaking Faculties of Medicine.

  • Year 1992

    Between 1992-2004, the Faculty of Medicine was led by the university professor and great patriot Nicolae Esanu. Under his firm leadership, the faculty initiated major changes as regards the learning methodology reforming process, the development of educational standards, etc.

  • Year 1986

    Between 1986-1991, the preclinical activity of the Faculty was led by Ion Marin, university professor, skilled educator and clinician, while the clinical activity - by Petru Galețchi, a great mentor with reforming didactic views, university professor, later vice-rector for didactic issues and international relations.

  • Year 1971

    Between 1971-1982, the leadership of the faculty was ensured by the university professor E. Muhin and by the associate professor A. Banaru. In August 1982, Faculties of Medicine no. 1 and no. 2, headed by the aforementioned deans, were set up.

  • Year 1968

     

    Due to the increase in the number of students and academic staff members, in 1968, the faculty was divided into: General Preclinical Medicine (I-III years), led by Dean Eugen Floca (1968-1971) and General Clinical Medicine (IV-VI years) headed by Ivan Vovc (1968-1971).

  • Year 1947

    University professor A. Livov was the first dean of the Faculty (1947-1959). Between 1947-1959, the activity of the faculty was coordinated by professor Mihail Borzov, followed by the associate professors Constantin Tibirna (1959-1963), Gheorghe Moskovko (1963-1964), Ivan Vovc (1964-1968) – representatives of the first generations of faculty graduates.

  • Year 1945

    The history of the Faculty of Medicine dates back to October 1945, when St. Petersburg Institute of Medicine no. 2 was transferred to Chisinau. At the time of its establishment, the Faculty represented the Institute’s base and included 250 students, from II to V years of study, and 27 chairs led by renowned scientists: A. Lavrentiev, F. Agheicenco, A. Zubcov, N. Cuznetsov, N. Starostenco, M. Ghehtman, S. Rubașov, A. Cramer, A. Livov, S. Blinchin, I. Curlov and others.
