INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

One of the priority areas for the strategic development of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova is the international collaboration, including the internationalization of the teaching and study process. This contributes to the integration of the University in the European and world education systems, the development of the mobility programs for students, resident doctors and academic staff members, the implementation of new methods of training, study, diagnosis and treatment. However, to realise all these ideas, certain grants for financing various scientific, training and institutional development projects are needed.

In 2005, the Medicine Study Program of Nicolae Testemiteanu University was evaluated by the external evaluation commission of the International Conference of Deans of Faculties of Medicine of French Expression, that visited our institution with the purpose of validating the results of institutional self-evaluation. One of the foreign experts’recommendations resides in the continuing professional development and self-assessment of the Faculty's academic staff.

At present, the University is undergoing an extensive process of modernization and internationalization, aimed at ensuring institutional accreditation and complying with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).

In the current socio-economic conditions, the development of an international collaboration in various fields has become imperative in order to reduce the gap between Nicolae Testemitanu SUMPh and other medical institutions in Western Europe and the USA. This will ultimately contribute to improving medical education and aligning it with international standards. The university has cooperation relations with a series of internal and external partners, which contributes to the development of the educational process in terms of improving teaching quality, student training programs and even the material resources of laboratories.

In order to train medical and pharmaceutical staff, develop medical science and practice, the University collaborates with over 70 foreign medical education institutions, including faculties, clinics and libraries in more than 20 countries: France, Romania, Belgium, The Netherlands, Bulgaria, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Belarus, Italy, Ukraine, Germany, the USA, Jordan, Switzerland, Morocco, Latvia, Georgia, Japan, Lithuania, etc.

Every year, about 300 people from Nicolae Testemitanu SUMPh are delegated to participate in various scientific forums, to conduct internships and scientific studies, to familiarize themselves with new technologies and the ways to implement them. Students, resident doctors, doctoral students and teaching staff members benefit from academic mobility, gaining experience under joint projects. During the last 5 years, such programs have been carried out together with specialized universities from Romania, Poland, France, Belgium and Ukraine.
